My Own Home
Moody Witchy Maximalism fine-tuned for my own energy
My partner and I purchased our townhouse in May of 2023. I have been working on it ever since! Originally a white farmhouse style house with modern finishes, I have gone bit by bit to make it into the cozy moody space we dream of. My partner leans a bit more mid-century and modern in his style, while I tend to prefer more cottage-y and dark academia inspired elements. I blend these together throughout our space to create a comfortable and interesting aesthetic. I love using texture and simple patterns for depth while staying within a dark and muted color palette.
We are both playful types with lots of hobbies and interests, so I love including those things in the details and decor of our home. You’ll see everything from bones and taxidermy to cute stuffed animals, anime characters, and more scattered throughout our home.
My personal home project list is never ending as my maximalist style lends itself to new ways to fill out or personalize each space. The danger of being an interior designer is that I am constantly coming up with new ideas and concepts at all times and have a knack for hunting for the perfect item!

Our home consists of 3 floors. It starts with an office and the garage on the first floor with a small but sweet entry space. The second floor is the living room, dining, and kitchen all in one open space with a nice pantry and half bath that is perfect for guests. And 2 bedrooms on the top floor, both with ensuite bathrooms, walk in closets, and a laundry closet on the landing.
While it sounds like a lot of space, I still find myself itching for at least one more closet! But don’t we all! I am so grateful for how well thought out our floorplan is and have done my best to maximize the functionality of each room to fit our needs best!

My color scheme is fairly straightforward. Instead of sticking with one specific color or colorway throughout the house, I prefer to stick with a certain level of tone and depth in the colors we use throughout. The walls of the primary bedroom are a deep dark muted hunter green. We went with a similar depth of dark purple in the guest room, and our living room is a dark but soft mixture of blacks done in a faux limewash style finish, which I painted myself!
The furniture palette stays generally the same throughout each space, which is how I keep the rooms and house cohesive overall. We stick with dark warm woods and black leather or upholstered pieces. Or in the bedrooms we pull in additional texture with furs and linens to create softness.
In the places I want a bit of a lighter touch for contrast, I like soft neutral browns to compliment the blacks without creating too much stark contrast, like would come with bright whites.
The vibe is warm, cozy, soft, and textural, with a overarching tendency towards natural materials and details.

Our furniture has been collected over time, but my favorite major brands to shop would definitely be Crate & Barrel (I loved them before I even worked there!), West Elm, Lulu & Georgia, and World Market. Creative Co-Op, which is a brand commonly found on Wayfair and Amazon, is another brand I love for their natural and handmade pieces to help add more character to the space.
The places I collect decor from are by far most commonly curiosity shops. We frequently travel the country and I hit up curiosity and antique shops every time to see what kind of new eclectic goodies I can find. And I love to collect art from local artists in the places we travel as well, so most of our wall art is hand made or prints by small business artists! I love supporting my communities!
